RPAC Awards Highlight Record-Breaking Year

The 2006 Pennsylvania REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Annual Awards Breakfast lauded the efforts of PAR members for raising a record-breaking $630,412 during 2005 fund-raising efforts.

RPAC Chair Janice C. Smarto said, “RPAC has been blessed by the generosity of its members.”

Jerry Speer, 2005 RPAC Treasurer, noted that fund-raising saw a 23 percent increase last year, achieving 146 percent of PAR’s initial goal, and 128 percent of NAR’s fair share goal. He congratulated 27 local associations for meeting and exceeding their participation goal. Speer also noted that there was a 19 percent increase in the number of REALTORS® who contributed to RPAC last year.

State Senator Robert T. Regola III (R-Westmoreland), guest speaker at the RPAC event, introduced himself as a friend of the real estate industry and explained that he is a land surveyor.

He invited REALTORS® to visit him to discuss where the industry stands on issues.

The upcoming state elections promise to be exciting for the public. He predicts the public interest and the number of those voting will increase over past years’ turnout.

“People won’t be able to get away from the election this year,” he said. He encouraged all REALTORS® to get out and vote in the election. “Voting is the most important choice and the most cherished right we have as Americans.”

To become more politically aware, Regola suggested voters watch television advertisements, study the voting records of incumbents, learn about the challengers, visit the candidates’ Web sites, and read newspapers.

“The challenge is to select the best candidate with the clearest vision for the Commonwealth, your district, or local community,” Regola added.
