The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Many Realtors® are active in local, state and federal politics because we understand how elected officials impact our businesses and homeownership. Eighty-two percent of PAR members are registered voters, because we all know the devastating affect that an increase in realty transfer tax can have on the homebuying process.

That’s why it’s so important to register to vote and remember to go to the polls on Election Day, Nov. 7. We’d like to see every Realtor® have a voice in the election process.

2Vote is a relatively new feature that allows anyone who texts “PA” to “2Vote” (28683) to access their voter registration status or an application to register. They can also locate their polling place and find links to county offices and the Department of State.

You can also register to vote online on the commonwealth’s site, VotesPA.  The site, available in English or Spanish, also allows currently registered voters to make updates to their voter record, such as a change of name, address or party affiliation.

An issue like the recent Municipal Code and Ordinance Compliance Act shows why it’s so important to elect local officials who understand the real estate market. Many municipals were denying occupancy certificates during the point-of-sale inspections and demanding that all code-related repairs be made by the seller prior to closing. PAR worked to amend the state law that governs municipal point-of-sale inspections to ensure that home sales aren’t delayed by needed minor repairs.

Your vote ensures that the Realtor® voice is heard and helps to elect candidates who protect private property rights and homeownership. Together, our votes can have an impact at all levels of government.
